We are celebrating the publication of “Realising the Value of Culture: The Value-Based Approach” (Routledge), co-edited by Lyudmila Petrova, Arjo Klamer, Christian Handke, Valeria Morea and YounSun Won.
The Value-Based Approach has been at the heart of CREARE’s work since our founding. This volume represents a milestone for the academic community and for all practitioners, policymakers, and organisations who believe that culture deserves a richer framework of evaluation.
The book brings together scholars and practitioners from multiple disciplines to explore:
🔹 Rethinking values of culture, challenging reductive understandings and revisiting the intellectual foundations of the VBA.
🔹 Realising values in practice, with applications across the arts, heritage, education, management, and urban development.
🔹 Building value-based futures, supporting organisations, communities, and policymakers in fostering more sustainable and inclusive societies through culture.
We are proud to see the VBA continue to grow as a living, collaborative framework shaped by researchers, applied by practitioners, and open to the world thanks to the open access made possible by Erasmus University Rotterdam (Library), Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication (ESHCC), and University Magna Graecia of Catanzaro.

Congratulations to all the authors and co-editors, and to Routledge for making it happen!
